New York DMV Driver License Practice Test 2026 – Complete Exam Prep

Using a cell phone while driving in New York is regulated to ensure the safety of all road users. The law prohibits the use of handheld devices while operating a vehicle, making it mandatory for drivers to utilize hands-free systems if they need to communicate via phone. This approach is designed to minimize distractions and maintain focus on the road, as using a handheld device can significantly increase the risk of accidents due to divided attention.

By requiring hands-free technology, drivers can still make necessary calls while keeping both hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road. This law aims to reduce the number of collisions caused by distracted driving, ultimately promoting safer driving practices among all users of New York's roadways. The other options do not comply with the current regulations regarding cell phone use while driving.
